4 Quick and Easy Weight Loss Summer Snack Ideas

Spread the love

It’s a quarantine summer 2020 and a lot of us still want to continue sitting on the couch at home eating a bag of chips or some chocolate while binge-watching shows on Netflix 24/7. I’m very guilty of this ever since gyms closed down and motivation for home workouts faded. Now that it’s summertime I’m ready to get back to a healthy balance again and you can too. Let’s satisfy those sweet or savoury cravings with these healthy alternatives. These 4 quick and easy recipes are perfect for your lazy (or active) days, and the ingredients are fresh and tasty, which is just what you need in this heat.

1. Icelandic Skyr or Plain Greek Yogourt Fruit Bowl

Every complete satiating snack needs to consist of carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats. This fruit bowl consists of raspberries and blueberries (the carbohydrates + micronutrients) with some vanilla skyr yogourt (protein), topped with sliced almonds (fats). You can change the fruits and nut to your desire.

I tried this skyr yogourt from Siggi’s recently and it’s very delicious! It contains very clean and simple ingredients. I also noticed the calories are slightly higher than regular non-fat greek yogourt but the macros are quite similar. Regardless if you use skyr or greek yogourt both are delicious, high in protein, and nutrient-dense. This snack is roughly under 200 calories per serving.

2. Blueberry Muffin Smoothie

This is another sweet snack with the involvement of your favourite berries again. I’ve been drinking this smoothie variation at least once a week for the past 5 months! It’s so good and you have to try it!

It consists of some frozen blueberries, blackberries, half a banana, 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk, less than 1/3 cup of organic oats, 1 tbsp of almond butter and some greek yogourt. You may think it’s calorically dense because of the almond butter and oats but trust me on this one, you can adjust the serving size (add less) to your desired intake. Also, despite almond butter’s high fat content, there are studies that prove it helps with weight loss! The entire smoothie is about 400 calories and can even be consumed as a meal replacement.

3. Apples and Almond Butter

This snack is a very easy one, just slice up your favourite kind of apple, sprinkle on some cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice and drizzle on your favourite nut butter. I love almond butter and it is my favourite, go-to choice for healthy fats paired with something sweet. Pairing healthy fats with naturally sweetened fruits like apples also helps control blood sugar and fight obesity. This sweet and savoury mini snack is under 200 calories and will add extra antioxidants, vitamins, and fibre to your diet.

My almond butter was clumpy since I was running out of it, haha.

4. Avocado Egg Toast

Alright, this sounds like a breakfast idea and of course, I have eaten this for breakfast many times but I also enjoy this as a healthy pre-workout snack! The combination of toast, avocados, an egg, and light mozzarella cheese makes this snack/breakfast super satiating.

Aside from the other sweeter snacks, I love this savoury one for refuelling my energy levels. This snack does have a higher fat content because of the avocado, egg yolk and cheese but all three help keep this snack satiating while maintaining a deficit. Also, the egg yolk contains healthy fats and nutrients so avoid skipping it. Calories for one serving of whole-wheat toast, an egg, and some light cheese are around 250-300 calories which are based on the amount of avocado and cheese you add.

The Bottom Line

When the cravings it again, try to aim for whole and fresh foods over highly processed foods. You will feel fuelled and satiated with these healthy and nutritious snacks which help with fat loss.
